Monarch Money alternative
See what a payment changes before you commit.
Monarch combines budgeting and account aggregation, and Monarch Plus adds forecasting for net worth, cash flow and life events. Wiggle Budget focuses on dated cash-flow decisions: which account gets tight, which planned payment causes it, and how changing your plan affects the projected balance. Monarch Money alternative: common questions
Does Monarch Plus offer financial projections?
Yes. Monarch Plus offers net-worth and cash-flow forecasting with life events and adjustable assumptions. It would be inaccurate to describe Monarch as only a record of past spending.
How is Wiggle Budget different from Monarch Plus forecasting?
Wiggle Budget focuses on dated entries and account-level cash-flow decisions. You can inspect projected balances and compare changes to planned payments without connecting your bank. Monarch Plus offers broader forecasting from your Monarch financial picture, including life events. Both offer projections, with different workflows and assumptions.
Can Wiggle Budget replace ProjectionLab for Monte Carlo retirement planning?
Wiggle Budget does not currently implement Monte Carlo retirement simulations. Its public retirement calculator uses an assumed constant growth rate and a 4% withdrawal illustration. ProjectionLab offers Monte Carlo analysis and retirement-planning tools. If those are your requirement, the Wiggle Budget calculator is not an equivalent replacement.
Can I plan cash flow without linking my bank?
Yes. Wiggle Budget uses the balances and entries you provide. Keep them up to date and account for pending payments so a charge already reflected in your starting balance is not deducted twice.
Does a projected balance mean the money is guaranteed to be available?
No. It is a calculation from the entries and assumptions in your plan. Missing bills, changed dates, fees or uncertain income can change the outcome. Review the scope before relying on a projected amount.
How should I compare subscription costs?
Compare the current plans for the features you actually need. Monarch forecasting requires Plus. Wiggle Budget has free and paid plans, with feature access shown on its pricing page. A lower price does not make two different planning tools interchangeable.
Why people move to Wiggle Budget, and how to check it
Monarch Money is a real product with real strengths, described above. What follows is not a claim that one tool beats every other: it is the four things about this one that can be verified before paying anything.
No bank login, at all
There is no connection to your bank, no aggregator, and nothing to revoke. You enter what you know, which is also why the plan can hold a transfer you made a minute ago or a bill you know is coming.
The maths is published
Every figure comes from a formula written out in the open: balances, projections, safe to spend, debt payoff and interest, with where each one runs. You can check the arithmetic against your own numbers.
Built from the awkward parts
Transfers that are neither income nor spending. A payment the bank has not taken yet. A bill that lands on the 15th when the template says the 21st. A month where a recurring payment never made it onto the timeline. These exist because they happened.
The free plan has no timer
Tracking, running balances, and importing your own data are free and stay free — bringing your numbers in is not the thing we charge for. Paid plans add projections, debt tools and the assistant, and the prices are on one page.
